The PreciseFit system enables men to customize their shoes’ fit through a revolutionary insert system that specifically addresses forefoot volume, where the majority of fit issues reside. Each shoe comes with two inserts of varying thicknesses that lock on to a removable footbed. The thicker insert minimizes volume in the shoe, for lower volume feet; while the thinner insert is suited to a slightly higher volume foot. People with the highest volume foot use no insert at all. Half-sizes are virtually eliminated. A single shoe box literally holds six sizes (9 and 9.5 N, M, W), and allows for differences between left and right feet. The collection utilizes rich leathers, quality craftsmanship and attention to detail and style that consumers have come to expect from Timberland. Two style categories are offered: Outlier Rugged, perfect for weekend wear, and Outlier Refined, for the casual work environment. In the retail pilot, overall inventory turns increased nearly two-fold and sales revenues increased by 80 percent compared with similar styles.
