Renovation of a railway station with a 40-year-old reinforced concrete station building by the Shimanto River. The aim was to create a design that would fit the needs of the next generation, considering the current circumstances of public transportation and a regional city from the user’s view. To expand effective space without increasing the building area, ticket gates were removed and part of the platform was remodeled to become a waiting area. At stations, strangers are packed close to each other, so they watch and are watched by each other. Lighting effects were provided to make people look more attractive, creating a space value unique to train stations. Moreover, information, such as that on notices and signs that can otherwise be confusing, has been assigned clear priorities, and rules were created so that people affiliated with the station can maintain the quality of the space continuously.
