These are the Public housings in Kamaishi city for reconstruction from the disaster of the Great East Japan Earthquake. To overcome the difficult situation like cost control of the disaster area, this became the first build-and-buy project that Private sector and the Government cooperated to manage the budget and the schedule. Since the choice of structural system and materials were restricted, design concept focused on the relational design between rooms, buildings and urban fabric to correspond to various demands from local communities. Corridor, particularly, manipulates the relation between the intimate neighborhood and individual space. Additionally, we created a color palette from the city flower HAMAYURI for the architecture, to make these housings a reminder of the restoration.
