The guideline set for the design of the MT-09 was to develop a “synchronized performance bike” that combines riding enjoyment, performance and design. The form features of this motorcycle emphasise the newly developed, three-cylinder “crossplane concept” engine and aim to create unity between rider and bike. The tank is short and slim. In combination with the flat seat, allowing the rider’s position to be freely adjusted, a dynamic, highly accentuated form is created. From a lateral view, the large space above the rear wheel generates proportions which suggest easy riding.
