Gravity, its causes and laws have been subjects that have captivated many thinkers throughout history, including Aristotle, Galilei and the English physicist Isaac Newton. And as a topic it has lost nothing of its fascination even today, as gravity defines the patterns of our everyday perceptions. The designer sought inspiration in and skilfully played with these patterns of perception when creating the Ora-ïto dining table. The complex structure of this table boldly challenges familiar habits and patterns of perception, inviting the beholder to decipher the secret behind its moving appearance. Connected to the ground by three spiralled arms, the round tempered glass top of the Ora-ïto table seems as if it were moving and spinning upon itself. This effect lends the dining table a look and appeal that is both elegant and dynamic in appearance. The optical illusion of motion is complemented by the use of a mirror in the lower part of the table. It is placed in the base element made of brushed stainless steel which is also round. The mirror was carefully positioned to create a light reflection to spectacular effect. In a symbiosis between visionary design and technological know-how the Ora-ïto emerged as a table of extraordinary beauty – a fascinating manifestation of motion in form that lures the senses.
