The Safe-Vent allows a medical technician to concurrently vent gas bubbles out of an arterial blood sample while safely capturing the needle—ultimately protecting the technician from being exposed to potential blood-borne pathogens. While existing products provide needle safety and arterial blood degassing, none provides both functions in a single device and in as few steps as the Safe-Vent. The device’s appearance helps to convey its function, with a larger conical needle lead-in and three-sided window that gives the technician a clear view of the venting chamber. In addition, the blood sample is exposed to less of the ambient environment than current products.
