The Quantum Design SVSM is an ultra-sensitive instrument for measuring magnetic properties of materials in the development of nano-compounds, data storage and advanced R&D. The new design consolidates various parts of the process into a single focused setup area so that experiments can be operated without changing hoses and connections or monitoring various pieces of equipment scattered though out the lab—a significant improvement over previous models. The design is vibrant and robust, without overpowering the simplified user experience. Because of its cost, the machine requires a large capital expense for labs. However, the new design’s user-driven focus helped the company successfully expand beyond the academic and research market into more lucrative industrial arenas.
