The needle holder is used for endoscope keyhole surgery. It becomes “the extended arm of the surgeon” while guiding the sewing material/needle. In the development of the HiQ+, even some contrary requirements had to be met: a sensitive movement over the roll axis of the instrument while sewing, the varying force transmission up to very strong clamping of the needle, and the intuitive releasing of the stressed needle. The basic mechanic characteristics have to meet highest technical demands, since the length of the lever multiplies mechanic tolerances and clamping effects. The basic design of the product complies with the catalogue of features specified in the “Corporate Product Design”, which ensures a uniform appearance for all the instruments (around 500) produced by Olympus Winter & Ibe.
