The concept of the breath counter is part of Philips Design’s “Philanthropy by Design” program and supports a pneumonia classification procedure to save children under the age of five using the fast breathing test to classify the disease. The breath counter was developed with NGOs to solve current issues with an existing device, namely inaccuracy and longevity. It is multi-functional with a 60-seconds timer and breath registration to make the testing procedure simpler, providing more accurate test results. For longevity the device is powered by solar cells, so no batteries are needed.
