In a simple way it allows many degrees of freedom of a system. The lightweight plastic joints that can rotate and pivot freely form the core of the system. They can be controlled via draw-wires electrically, pneumatically or manually. The development of the joint is based on fundamental ideas in bionics and is modeled on the function of a human elbow.
