New materials do not only allow for new shapes, but also enable a different way of thinking about movement: in 2008, the BMW Group introduced a concept car with a seamless fabric outer shell that boldly questioned the philosophy of car design. Now GINA was the inspiration force for a collaboration between BMW and PUMA that has resulted in the X-Cat DISC. This shoe is about essential character, lightweight, adaptability and performance. Rather than transferring automotive design to the lifestyle world, this project is about translating a visionary design philosophy from one industry to another, exploring the creative freedom shoe design has to offer.
