Located at the top level of a new shopping mall in a historic neighborhood of Puxi Shanghai, this building has a sun-filled open atrium that connects public areas to nine distinct theatre houses. The design team studied the site and at the same time researched the history of film. Fascinated by the film industry and inspired by many great directors of the past and our time, we came to appreciate the importance of script in the movies. The design draws inspiration from a ‘script booklet’. The color palette is inspired by nature and includes timber, grey stone, metal, white paint and touch of orange.
