Halfway between a chair and a file-binder full of colorful fabrics, the PAGES chair almost feels like flipping through a book of textile swatches, and with each page, the chair transforms into a new design. Designed by Noriko Hashida and developed by Vanguard Industries, the PAGES chair has a delightful way of making sure you’re never bored by the spaces you’re in, or the furniture that’s in your spaces. With a wooden body and multiple ‘pages’ of colorful fabric, the PAGES chair can simply be altered by flipping a page to reveal a fresh color combination underneath! With each flip, the fabric leaves the seat and drapes over the back of the chair, forming its cushioned backrest. With as many as 12 colorful fabrics bound to each chair’s backrest, the PAGES chair lets you build and alter a color combination of your choice, allowing you to virtually change the upholstery of the chair by a simple act of flipping a page, and in turn making sure your living spaces aren’t stuck in a mundane visual rut. Flipping the chair’s pages also enables you to change the way the chair feels when you sit on it. The more pages you flip, the thinner the chair’s seat becomes, and consecutively makes the backrest’s cushioning thicker. The flipping action, therefore, serves a dual purpose. Not only does it allow you to add different splashes of color to your spaces, but it also allows you to build a chair that’s much more suited to your levels of comfort! The PAGES chair’s creative design was first envisioned by Noriko at Salone Milan in 2005 amidst an absolute collage of colors, forms, and designs. She then went on to experiment and build on and refine her concept, taking it to Salone in 2012, back to the very place where inspiration struck her. Since 2012, the PAGES chair has traveled to fairs and expos around the world, garnering the love and interest of everyone who’s seen it, sat on it, and flipped its pages. Over time, the PAGES chair evolved further than just experimenting with colors, and started introducing different textiles like patterns, prints, and faux fur to make uniquely pleasing chair that complement all sorts of spaces and tastes.
