When flash floods or high tide arrives, the road barrier will move its metal shutter to the other road barrier, creating a line of defence across the flood-prone areas. During low tide periods or mega events, the barrier can be lowered to match the street level for easier crossing. As shopping belts in Singapore are located in low-lying areas, flash floods occur. Goods are being damaged when flash floods sweep into shop houses. Numerous ideas have sprung up but was neither economical-friendly nor design-friendly. Using the existing road barriers, we can make some improvements to it so as to deter any flash floods or open up to any major events.
